Debut release by new Ladino project - Yja - 'La Sirena' - by Ana Silvera & Francesca Ter-Berg21/4/2020
The debut single, La Serena, from my new Ladino song project with singer-songwriter Ana Silvera is born. Yja (Daughter) brings new light to these old romantic beautiful songs from the Judeo-Spanish tradition. Sung in Ladino, the Medieval Spanish spoken by the diaspora since the 1400s in Spain and Portugal before the were forced to disperse and become disinherited from their homes in the 1600's. These songs have stayed alive until now and we are honoured to be able to look into the archives and explore some of these treasures.
In the sea, there is a tower
In the tower, there is a window In the window, there is a girl Whom all the fisherman adore Give me your hand, my dove So I can come up to your nest Unlucky that you sleep alone I am coming to sleep with you If the sea was made of milk, I'd become a fisherman, I'd fish for my pain, With little words of love. If the sea was made of milk, In the little cinnamon boats, I'd drench myself entirely, To save my flag.
