My debut EP 'In Eynem' is released on the 15th April on the Spirituals/ Phantom Limb label.
Listen and pre-save the EP here. This is long overdue - an offering I could see being released many moons ago. But life has many twists and turns, and it seems now is the time to start sharing my sounds with you all in an incremental and gentle way. My creative journey until now has been rich and the connections I have made and collaborations I encountered thus far have all led me to this point. 'In Eynem' means 'united' in Yiddish, a word which felt apt for the present time. The importance of interconnectivity and community is what grounds and centres the music in this release. In Eynem is a portal, a way to enter into my musical world. A kind of introduction. The textures, sounds and traditional music I work with have surrounded me for many years and I is nice to share this. The recording is a live performance at Laylow in W10, London, a moment in time that was beautifully captured, mixed and mastered by Dyre Gormsen. The performances was a support show for one of my favourite bands - Hejira - and I thank them for the opportunity. And I'm happy to bravely share it with you all as a humble first release and hopefully the first of many.

Thanks Jennifer Lucy Allen for featuring my EP 'In Eynem' in this months episode of Rum Music for The Quietus, one of my favourite music publications! Read the review here.
Thank you to Lopa Kothari (BBC Radio 3 Music Planet) and Hew Stephens for supporting my music and playing my tunes on your shows!!!
Thanks to an amazing campaign led by Kate Gillespie, Jan Ryan, Lucy Lyons and myself, plus immense support from the Margate community, shops & businesses, local and national press and an emergency high profile crowdfunding campaign, we were able to save the old Margate Synagogue from auction, where it would likely be developed into flats or become a private home.
At the last minute an anonymous benefactor stepped in to buy the building so that it can be turned into an arts space for the local community and we are now raising funds to develop the building and convert it into the Cliftonville Cultural Space. Read coverage from the Jewish Chronicle and Isle of Thanet Gazette.

Ah online life... what will become of it? where is it heading? who knows. In the meantime its been nice to make a few things happen in a cerebral telecommunicative airwaves internetty type fashion. On that note... A pleasure it was to have put together a 30 min split-screen live set for you all with my string partner in crime Flora Curzon. We were invited to be invited be part of bass legend Anthony Tidd's online festival series 'Act4Music' curtated by River Recitals / Narotam Horn.Beautiful group of musicians playing in the series and our night features harpist Naomi.greene, pianist Teo Gheorghiu & Kora player Josh Doughty. Check out our concert here. It's live for 1 year! |
A pleasure to natter lockdown style on Zoom with Jude, Ana Silvera and myself last week putting together this feast of chat and music relating to our new Ladino project Yja: Sat 9 May - Ana Silvera & Francesca Ter-berg - Yja - LADINO Ana Silvera and Francesca Ter-berg introduce their project Yja – reimagining the Ladino songs of Ana's ancestors. The debut single, La Serena is one of many songs sung from a female perspective in Judeo-Spanish and which continued to be performed in domestic environments the Sephardic diaspora, particularly in eastern Europe. Archives, oral history, folk tales and the classically influenced early music revival are all part of the picture we have of Ladino music and help us speculate about music in the past. Songs about love, first crushes, revenge, snapshots of the time. Silvera and Ter-berg talk about their approach to the music as professional music-makers and composers. Check out Judes blog here.
